Legendary Barbecue Since 1977
Behind the walls of this Spanish structure lies one of the most beautiful courtyards in the city. Fountains make The State Line an El Paso oasis that's a favorite restaurant of locals and visitors alike. The bustling yet laid-back atmosphere makes it a comfortable place for families, as well as couples and groups. From sneakers to heels, everyone is accommodated with friendliness and efficiency.
Barbecue is slow-smoked for 18 to 20 hours every day, then cut and trimmed to create the leanest beef brisket, the meatiest ribs, the most tender baby back pork ribs, and the most succulent smoked chicken. Large portions are served with homemade potato salad, coleslaw, and beans. Grilled Blue Plate Specials — such as beef and chicken kabobs, grilled fish, and a full line of steaks including New York strip, rib-eye, and a T-bone as big as your shoe and as tender as your mother's heart are all served with a large baked potato, coleslaw, and beans. Lighter-portioned platters and sandwiches are also available at lunchtime. On the a la carte menu, don't pass up the incredible homemade bread or mushrooms cooked in butter, wine, and spices.
If there's room left over after hunkerin' down to barbecue, finish your meal off with homemade cobbler and/or ice cream, which is made fresh daily. Because of the commitment of those involved in The State Line and the testimonies of those who have enjoyed it over the years, The State Line name has become synonymous with consistent, quality barbecue and friendly Southwestern service. Voted El Paso's best restaurant, critics have called it "the best of barbecue" (Vogue) and "the original source for barbecue" (USA Today). Says Texas Monthly, "You'll find first-class beef, ribs, and sausage with all the trimmings, plus a spiffy Texas roadhouse atmosphere."
The State Line is now continuously serving lunch and dinner seven days a week. Diners are welcome to choose any of the hundreds of craft beers and wine selections from the liquor store to accompany their BBQ feast! Private dining facilities are available for business meetings and group dinners. "To-go" barbecue is also available.
Now open: The Side Door Liquor Store attached to The State Line is open until midnight, seven days a week.
