Albuquerque was founded in 1706 by Governor Francisco Cuervo y Valdez. Encompassing about 10 blocks of historic adobe buildings around a central Plaza, the oldest building in the city is San Felipe de Neri Church, built in 1793. Many of the original settlers’ homes and shops have since been converted into more than 150 restaurants, art galleries, and shops. The Old Town area is enchanting for residents and visitors alike.
